The 1-Minute Stylist: How to Dress a Full-Hourglass Figure

Monday, November 30, 2009 The 1-Minute Stylist: How to Dress a Full-Hourglass Figure

by Mandy Lehto

Do you have:

  • A full bust?
  • A waist?
  • Rounded hips and bottom?

If so, you could have a full-hourglass figure.  Celebrity point of comparison?  Think Jennifer Lopez-like curves.

Key pieces for your wardrobe:

  1. Shaped dresses, especially wraps or shifts in soft, bias-cut fabrics to accommodate your curves.
  2. Flat-fronted trousers, preferably side-zipped to create less bulk at the waist.  Keep it simple.
  3. Shaped tops – like dresses, try wrap or cross-over styles.
  4. Skirts with shaping – try bias-cuts or paneled.
  5. Invest in a shaped coat – shawl collars are good, as are single-breasted, shaped styles.

Take-away tips:

  • Ensure that your fabrics are all soft and fluid – nothing boxy or stiff.
  • Beware of jeans – too many bulky pockets!
  • Avoid patterns with stripes and checks.
